I Booked A Photo Booth to Take One Photo

In 2015, I found myself embarking on a journey of launching the second iteration of my photo booth business. i had just gone through a challenging breakup, essentially hitting the reset button on my life.

For some context, I had previously been involved in an event production company that offered various services like floral, lighting, and photobooths. However, I decided to focus solely on photo booths since it’s something that came rather easy to me and i needed something low pressure.

i remember i was in the early stages of figuring out what this second business would be. I didn’t yet have a brand voice or even a cohesive color scheme at that point. I had purchased only one photo booth and had one employee at the time.

It was a rather quiet day and i remember i was sitting in the home office and the office line rang. It was a gentleman on the other line effectively saying, “This is going to sound crazy — please don’t hang up.”

he explained to me that somehow a photo booth was apart of their beginning of their relationship and he wanted it to be part of his proposal. He was explaining that he wanted to just “happen upon” a photo booth whilst on the way to dinner. he would send me photos of him holding a sign saying, “will you marry me?” and i would format in the photo strip.

I remembered i charged him practically next to nothing to setup a whole photo booth back in 2015 to take one photo. however, i clearly was in a good mood that day. I agreed and got to work. Luckily the place where i setup, i had friends that worked nearby and was able to run power to the photo booth.

I setup about an hour prior or so, and texted him that all was ready to go. Printers back then took a significant amount of time to print, so the will you marry me photo strips were already pre-printed and waiting inside.

He texted me real-time updates. “Headed downtown.” “Parking.” “walking up in 2 min.”

He and his future fiance walked up and the rest is history.

take a look at the video from my perspective on the day of the proposal!

He arranged for family and friends to pop out after he asked the big question. She screamed, “DAD!” And then, probably like you right now, bursts into tears.

As I look back on that pivotal juncture in my journey, I'm reminded of the power we hold to be instruments of joy, even in the most unexpected ways. in rewatching the video for the first time probably since that day, i am so glad that he called when he did and i was able to give them such a wonderful memory.

This unique photo booth proposal serves as a testament to the power of embracing opportunities that come our way, even when they might seem unconventional or unexpected. sometimes you just want to put out some good into the world and make it just a little bit of a better place.
